Publishing powerhouse Activision confirmed during its investors call overnight that it will launch a new premium Call of Duty game this year. Okay, who’s surprised? No one? Yep, didn’t think so.
Call of Duty has been an annual behemoth ever since 2005’s Call of Duty II, and has spanned multiple entires including World War II, Advanced Warfare, Black Ops and countless spin-off titles. At this point, we don’t know what developer is responsible for this year’s Call of Duty game.
Back in 2014, Activision announced that the series would be rotating between three developers: Sledgehammer Games, Infinity Ward, and Treyarch. However, Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War bucked that trend when Treyarch made the game just two years after Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Smart money says that Sledgehammer Games is up next though, since it hasn’t shipped a Call of Duty game since 2017.

No further details are currently known about Call of Duty 2021, although we’ll probably get the first details on the game in the summer like last year. Usually we receive the first info in April or May, but due to COVID-19, things were pushed back for Black Ops – Cold War so we imagine something similar will happen this year.
It’s safe to assume that the new Call of Duty game will be coming to PS5 and PS4, as Activision isn’t likely to abandon the player base of last-generation consoles just yet.
