Capcom’s latest Integrated Report has confirmed that the Japanese publisher is planning on developing new instalments in the Devil May Cry and Dead Rising franchises.
Both series are listed among the titles planned for release by Capcom for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016 and beyond, alongside the likes of other heavyweights including Resident Evil and Street Fighter. Up until now, Capcom had yet to confirm whether or not it was planning on continuing both franchises, although this report seems to put to bed the notion that Devil May Cry and Dead Rising were being put on the back burner for now.
The news comes following confirmation that Capcom’s Resident Evil division is focusing heavily on virtual reality gaming moving forward, suggesting that the next chapter in the venerable survival horror franchise could make use of PlayStation VR among other devices.
Capcom remastered Devil May Cry 4 earlier this year for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360, while prior to that, it handed the series’ last major instalment over to Ninja Theory for the critically divisive DmC: Devil May Cry in 2013. This was also remastered for current-generation consoles in early 2015. Dead Rising meanwhile last showed up as an Xbox One-exclusive launch title in the form of Dead Rising 3; whether or not the next chapter in the zombie-action series will skip PS4 remains to be seen at this point, however.
Resident Evil celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2016, so Capcom will most likely have something planned to mark the occasions beyond Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster and Resident Evil Umbrella Corps. The long-rumored Resident Evil 7 will reportedly bring back the horror element to the series, much to the delight of fans, and we also have the full remake of Resident Evil 2 to look forward too in the next couple of years.
