New PS5 System Update Out Now, Adds 1440p Support And New Social Features

Sony Interactive Entertainment has rolled out the latest PS5 system update, which is a major patch for the console adding 1440 support, new social features and a couple of other interesting features. The PS5 firmware update is available to download now and weighs in at just over 1GB.

In addition to 1440p HDMI video output, the PS5 system update also brings with it game lists and social features such as the ability to request a Share Screen from a party member. You can also now easily view friends’ profiles and receive notifications to help you join a mate’s game.

Elsewhere, Sony has also rolled out the ability to search for YouTube content via Voice Command (Preview). You simply say “Hey PlayStation, find [keyword] on YouTube” from anywhere on the PS5, even during gameplay. Users can also compare 3D audio and stereo audio on the same screen more easily.

Later this month will also see a number of new features come to the PlayStation App on iOS and Android, chief among which includes the ability to launch a PS Remote Play session using the app. In addition, the Request Share Screen seen on PS5 is also coming to the PS App.
