Fresh details on Crystal Dynamics’ eponymous Tomb Raider reboot have trickled on to the web this morning, courtesy of the chaps at NeoGAF.
Hot off the pages of the new issue of U.S. magazine Game Informer, the info burst confirms that heroine Lara Croft will be 21 during the events of the game, though unlike previous iterations there won’t be a “real” model associated with her digital counterpart.
Performance capturing has been employed this time around, and keeping in with the series’ tradition there’ll be an assortment of grisly ways for the young Miss Croft to bite the dust – one such example describes the nimble archaeologist being crushed by a giant boulder, while another details Croft being stabbed to death by a deranged, knife-wielding chap, who then closes her eyes once she’s succumbed to her wounds. Charming.
Furthermore, the game’s environment will be an open-world affair for you to explore as you see fit, and also includes a series of base camps that will allow our heroine to cobble together new items to facilitate her survival efforts, as well as upgrade her own abilities via a skill tree. Fast travel has also been confirmed ala Red Dead Redemption, and you’ll also have to scout for essential supplies such as food and water.
"I think that the major difference between this game and the old is the concept of smoke and mirrors," commented Crystal Dynamics studio boss, Darrell Gallagher.
"There was an illusion of freedom because of streaming and loading that would pop you out in a different location, but this is absolutely real. You can literally go any direction that you see and carve your own way to the finish line instead of being guided."
Tomb Raider has yet to attract a release date.
