SEGA has debuted the first combat gameplay footage of the new Virtua Fighter project that is currently in development at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, which is the same team behind the much-loved Yakuza franchise.
The video, seen below, depicts iconic Virtua Fighter brawlers Sarah Bryant and Akira slugging it out, showcasing some impressive visuals as blood, sweat and fists fly.

This is the first look at the game since January, when SEGA showcased ‘pre-development in-engine footage’ of the project.
The brainchild of Shenmue and Hang-On creator Yu Suzuki, Virtua Fighter pioneered 3D fighting games following its release back in 1993 in arcades, and was followed by a Sega Saturn release in 1994. Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtua Fighter 3 appeared on the Saturn and Dreamcast, respectively, and following SEGA’s withdrawal from the hardware business in 2001, the franchise moved to other formats including PlayStation 2.
A release date for the new Virtua Fighter has yet to be revealed.
