Speaking to Game Informer, a Sony representative confirmed that Hello Games’ upcoming PlayStation 4 and PC space exploration title, No Man’s Sky, will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription in order to play it.
However, the format holder noted that you’ll still need an Internet connection if you are to upload any of your discoveries to the game’s universal Atlas.
“PS Plus won’t be a requirement to play online, however you will need to connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas,” said Sony.
No Man’s Sky release date is less than a month away
No Man’s Sky is scheduled for release in the U.S. on August 9 and in the U.K. on August 10. In recent weeks, Hello Games has unveiled a number of videos looking at various aspects of the ambitious title, including combat and resource gathering.
While technically not a single-player game, the fact No Man’s Sky contains such a vast open-world to explore means it is unlikely you’ll ever meet up with another player within game world.
In fact, Hello Games has gone on record to say that around 99.9 percent of No Man’s Sky’s planets are unlikely to be explored by gamers. Considering there is a jaw-dropping 18 quintillion of them, we’re not surprised.
The game itself is built around four core principles, namely exploration, trading, combat, and survival. Upon discovering a new planet, gamers can land their craft and scan the environment for valuable minerals and info, which can then be uploaded to the Atlas for all to see.
