Owners of the Nyko Data Bank and the newest model of PlayStation 4, model number CUH-1200 will have access past the original recommended limitation without performance issues, according to Nyko.
Before getting started, here’s the easiest way to tell if a PS4 is of the newer model CUH-1200:
– HDD cover is matted instead of glossy
– Physical power and eject buttons instead of touch buttons
While massive hard drives can be used with the PS4 thanks to the Data Bank, original models of the PS4 experienced general performance issues when the HDD was over 2TB, with Rest Mode being one of the sacrificed functions in order to use oversized drives. The long and short for owners of the older models is that they will have to keep their hard drives below the recommended 2TB if they wish to use the Nyko Data Bank without issues.
For owners of the new model of PS4, that model being the CUH-1200 model, there’s more wiggle room in regards to the size of the hard drive. The Data Bank always supported up to 6 TBs, so the speculation is that the newer SKU can handle the extra storage space without performance issues as well as maintain proper Rest Mode functionality.
