Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remaster that was revealed at a recent Capcom Spotlight 2025 event now has a release date. Announced at the February 2025 State Of Play, it’ll be arriving on PS4 on May 23, 2025.
The release date arrived alongside a brand new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the brand new entry in the Onimusha franchise coming in 2026. It’s like Capcom and Team Ninja have the same strategy, of remastering an old classic from their popular action game franchises, before a brand new one launches later on.
Onimusha fans will just have to wait longer than Ninja Gaiden fans, since Ninja Gaiden 4 is due out before the end of 2025. Getting back to Onimusha though, you can check out the release date trailer for Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remaster for yourself, below.
Veteran Onimusha fans are also getting a small in-game bonus with Onimusha 2. If you have save data for Onimusha: Warlords on your console, you’ll be able to unlock the Samanosuke Outfit for Jubei, which is an outfit based on Samanosuke Akechi, the protagonist from the first game.
Capcom also provided a few more details about the remaster in a PlayStation Blog, confirming that it’ll include a new difficulty mode where players die after just one hit, and that the game will be “retaining the setting and gameplay systems of the original game, originally released in 2002 on PS2.”
Other details include a brand new Easy mode, the ability to skip all cutscenes, an auto-save function, and the ability to switch between weapons without having to open the menu.
And all the assets, including the 3D character models and the rest of the visual effects have been bumped up to high definition for the modern era.
