Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has posted his latest US hardware estimations ahead of official NPD figures, putting Sony’s PlayStation 3 ahead of Xbox 360 for the month of August 2008.
Pachter forecast PS3 sales of 225,000, beating out Microsoft’s competing platform at 200,000, with the Wii taking the lead again at 550,000 units sold.
Furthermore, the analyst expects overall software sales to exceed USD 600 million, a year-on-year increase of 23 per cent.
"We don’t believe that Wii sell-through increased dramatically in August, as we did not see incremental supply at retail. The company promised that supplies would increase during the summer due to higher manufacturing capacity coming online some time in July, but we believe that the higher supply began to show up only in September,” noted Pachter.
NPD figures will be released on Thursday, September 11.
