Back in the early days of the internet where social media existed only as chatrooms, when websites like MySpace began to get their footing, there was a race to see who could not just be the first really big social networking website, but who could stick around.
Now, after years of social media giants like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter keeping their grip on people, there are new contenders in the ring once again, but this time the challenge is to topple champions.
Bluesky is one of those contenders, and PlayStation has just given the Twitter-like a step up by making an official PlayStation account. So far its first and only post is the trailer that hit any long-time PlayStation fan right in the nostalgia.
Of course this alone doesn’t mean the platform has ‘made it’ or something like that, but a part of any social media’s journey to the ‘big leagues’ is having big brands a part of the platform in an official way.
Who knows if Bluesky will stick around at this point, but it’s worth pointing out that there’s no official PlayStation account over on Mastadon. Bluesky is definitely doing something right, but whether or not it’ll carve out its own piece of the pie for good is yet to be determined.
