Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has filed a new patent for potential use in the forthcoming PlayStation 5, adding yet further fuel to the fire regarding the console’s as yet other undisclosed capabilities. The patent, which can be seen here, was published just two days ago and points towards the dynamic creation of music depending on the emotion it receives from the player.
You can catch the key text from the patent below:
“A method and system for dynamic music creation is disclosed. An emotion is assigned to one or more musical motifs and a game vector is associated with the emotion. The one or more musical motifs are mapped to the game vector based on the emotion. A musical composition is generated based on the game vector and desired emotions.”
Though the patent doesn’t specifically mention PlayStation 5 it makes sense that such functionality is tied in with Sony’s next console. Indeed, you might recall that just a couple of weeks ago, John Wick Hex developer Mike Bithell and famed industry composer Austin Wintory suggested how the DualSense controller could aid developers in creating unique possibilities with music in PS5 games.

This then, would seem to tie into that idea and also that larger notion that the PlayStation 5, perhaps more than any other console in history, is about the ‘feeling’ you get and create from games.
