Project Resistance To Feature Single-Player Campaign

Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata has revealed that the upcoming Project Resistance will feature a single-player campaign with its own narrative. Up until now, the Resident Evil spin-off title had only been confirmed as a multiplayer game, but it seems Capcom wants to appeal to solo gamers, too.

Project Resistance Solo Campaign Confirmed

When asked by the PlayStation Blog if Project Resistance was conceived as an online-only game, Masachika-san replied:

The version we showed at TGS 2019 was an online game mode, but we are fully aware that there many are Resident Evil fans that expect the story in the game. In an effort to satisfy our fans, we will have an offline mode that is focused on the narrative component.

He also revealed that the game isn’t a remake of Resident Evil: Outbreak, although that much is obvious to anyone who has played that game.

Some users think of this new game as a remake, but that isn’t true. The survivors being normal citizens is something we imagined from Resident Evil Outbreak. However, the existence of Mastermind is a big difference from Outbreak and we are developing this game in a different way.

Project Resistance is coming to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, with a beta planned for next month. The game pits four survivors against another player who controls The Mastermind, a mysterious Umbrella employee who is able to plant traps and take control of zombies and other creatures, including the fearsome Mr. X.

Capcom is already planning a Resident Evil 8, but it’s highly doubtful that will be released for current-generation platforms. The Japanese video game maker is also rumoured to be working on a full remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, but nothing official has been confirmed yet.

Resident Evil launched back in 1996 and is Capcom’s best-selling franchise to date, with over 91 million units sold worldwide.
