The official Twitter account for Mortal Shell, which was included as part of the PS Plus December 2021 free games lineup, has confirmed that it does not give users access to the free PS5 upgrade. It’s the PS4 version of the game only.
Mortal Shell is of course backwards compatible on the PS5 so you can still play it on Sony’s console, but you can’t grab the native PS5 version for free. This was the case with Final Fantasy VII Remake, which did not let you upgrade to PS5 when it launched for PS Plus earlier this year.
Hey Darin, to clarify the version of Mortal Shell that ships on PS+ will only be the original PS4 edition (non-enhanced) which is also playable on PS5 via backward compatibility.
Mortal Shell was released on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on August 18, 2020, and later turned up on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition back in March.
