In Sony’s upcoming v3.60 firmware update, which is set to go live tomorrow, PlayStation 3 gamers will finally be able to store their saved games on the "cloud" (Sony’s online servers), Sony today announced. Unfortunately, there’s a catch: at the present time, you have to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber to make use of this exciting new feature.
PS+ users will be allowed to store up to 150 MB of data — or 1,000 save game files, whichever comes first — on the cloud. Gamers who store their data online can access it from any PS3 by using their unique PlayStation Network log-in, which means no more starting from scratch when you bring your games over to a friend’s place.
Other "minor" features will be included in tomorrow’s v3.60 firmware update, but they have not yet been detailed. Stay tuned for more information.
UPDATE: To clarify, this feature will allow users to back up “copy-prohibited save data" in addition to regular save data.
