PS3 getting another new model in Japan, Sony phasing out existing SKUs

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) has announced that it’ll launch a new, cheaper PlayStation 3 model in the country later this month.

Due out on August 28, the new model—officially known as the 500GB Charcoal Black CECH-4300C—will retail for 25,980 yen, which equates to roughly £151. Overall, that’s about £17 cheaper than the previous model.

As a result of the new model, Sony will phase out the existing white 250GB and black 250GB/500GB PS3s to make room for the Charcoal Black edition. The final shipments for the existing SKUs will arrive later this month.

No word yet on whether the new PS3 will arrive in the U.K. or U.S., though we’ll be sure to keep you notified.
