The head of SCEE recently said that Sony’s PlayStation 3 price cut is not a reaction to “current market conditions.”
“We are aware that consumers are watching their euros and pounds more carefully than before and it may make a price reduction have potentially even more impact,” Andrew House told the Financial Times. “But it would not be fair to say this is a reaction to current market conditions.”
Continuing its competition with Microsoft, House also said Sony is working on linking the PS3 with social websites like Facebook. The Xbox 360 is set to link-up with Facebook sometime before the holidays.
“The goal is to move from a traditional short, toy-based life cycle to a longer, consumer electronic life cycle,” he said. “The network allows us to give customers a better sense of value and continuous improvement.”
Sony touts a 10-year life span for its consoles, so the PS3 still has a lot of life left in it. With the price drop, new slim model, and possible link-in with social websites, Sony continues to grow its current power horse, of course, voice chat out of games would be appreciated.
What big features would you like to see the PS3 take on in the coming months and years?
