Sony has released PS4 firmware update 4.01 for users to download, although don’t expect as significant.
PS4 system update 4.01 does, well, not much at all
The latest PS4 update doesn’t introduce any major new features unlike 4.00, and is merely a stability update. In fact, so minor is the update that Sony hasn’t released any patch notes for users to digest. PS4 update 4.01 weighs in at approximately 302MB, so fire up your console and grab it now.
PS4’s update 4.00 introduced a wealth of new features to Sony’s current-generation console, such as overhauling the User Interface as well as HDR support among other attractions.
Sony recently announced two new additions to the PS4 family in the shape of the PS4 Slim; a thinner, cheaper version of its flagship console, and the PS4 Pro; a more powerful iteration of the console that allows for improved frame rates and resolution. PS4 Slim is available now while PS4 Pro is released on November 10, 2016 priced $399/£349.
Elsewhere, the format holder is also gearing up for the launch of PlayStation VR, which arrives on October 13, 2016. The device will support over 50 games by the end of the year, and has over 230 developers working on the headset. Sony’s virtual reality peripheral is the cheapest option to get into the realm of VR gaming, clocking in significantly cheaper than both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
PS4 was released in November 2013 and has sold over 40 million units worldwide to date, putting it comfortably ahead of the Xbox One in the current-gen console battle.
