PS4 and Xbox One both launched in November 2013, though Sony’s machine quickly pulled ahead of its lead rival in terms of worldwide sales. The console has shipped 40 million units to date, though Microsoft has been keeping figures for Xbox One’s performance close to its chest since late 2014.

The console war looks set to shift up a gear soon however, thanks to the release of new hardware. Xbox One S is now available, while the Xbox Scorpio is pegged for a holiday 2017 release. Sony is also working on an upgraded system known as the PS4 Neo, although a release date has yet to be announced.

However, Sony is set to host a PlayStation Meeting in New York City in early September, where it is rumored the PS4 Neo will make its long-awaited debut.
