PS4 sales beat Xbox One in August, says Michael Pachter

The PlayStation 4 is expected to top sales of its leading rival, the Xbox One, in the U.S. during August, Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter has said.

Speaking in a note to investors (via GamePur), the outspoken analyst noted that although his firm anticipates sales of Sony’s latest home console to drop slightly, it’ll still move enough units to secure it another victory over Microsoft’s machine.

"We expect PS4’s [August] sales to again exceed those of the Xbox One," said Pachter, who put PS4’s numbers at 175,000 for August—seven percent down on the previous month.

"[PS4 still outsold Xbox One] despite the June introduction of a $400 Xbox One without Kinect and the August release of a $400 Madden NFL 15 bundle that includes a download code [for Madden], essentially bundling the game for free," he added.

PS4 has given Xbox One quite a battering in monthly U.S. sales since both formats hit stores in November last year. July marked the seventh consecutive month that PS4 came out on top as North America’s best-selling games console.
