PS4 sales dominated the competition in Australia last year

NPD Australia has confirmed that PlayStation 4 was the best-selling home console in the region throughout 2015.

According to data gathered by the firm, Sony’s current-generation system made up 59 percent of all console market value, while 49 percent of all software sales were attributed to the PS4.

In addition, Sony Australia’s performance during the Christmas 2015 period eclipsed all previous records held by the console maker.

"We are so proud to see the performance of the entire PlayStation business continue to go from strength to strength, especially as PS4 continues to break records as the fastest selling console in Australian PlayStation history," said Michael Ephraim, Marketing Director of PlayStation Australia.

"We are excited to welcome the inclusion of PlayStation VR, that will again elevate our proposition by pushing the boundaries of innovative technology. Our community holds an invaluable role in making PlayStation the success it is and we’re incredibly grateful and proud to enjoy these achievements with them.”

Luis Gil of the NPD Australia added: "As PS4 maintains its leadership position in the home console market, it is evident that the home entertainment unit has played an instrumental role in the market success of the Australian Interactive Entertainment category.”

Sony announced earlier this year that PS4 had sold 35.9 million units worldwide.
