Following news that the PS5 has now sold 40 million unites worldwide, Famitsu has revealed that the console has now surpassed the four million mark in Japan.
According to the publication, PS5 moved 53,211 units during the period July 24 — 30, 2023, pushing it past the four million barrier. The milestone is split between 3,495,327 units of the disc model and 551,239 sales of the digital-only edition. Meanwhile, the PS4 is still managing to sell in the region, with 784 units pushed during the same week.
The PS5 was released in November 2020 in major territories including the US and Europe, although the console was plagued by stock shortages brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Things have now settled down though, with PlayStation boss Jim Ryan declaring earlier this year that the console is now readily available worldwide.
Recently, the console has enjoyed a massive sales spike in the UK thanks to a temporary price drop, while over in the US the PS5 ranked as the best-selling system for June 2023 in terms of unit and dollar sales.
