Someday You’ll Return developer CBE Software has offered its two pence on the upcoming PS5, in particular the console’s impressive-sounding Tempest audio engine that Sony is integrating into the new system.
CBE Software Praises PS5 Tempest Audio Engine
Speaking in a recent interview (via GamingBolt), CBE’s Jan Kavan also touched base on the variable frequency of the PS5’s CPU and the difference between it and the Xbox Series X’s own tech, which is clocked at 3.8GHz.
In Someday You’ll Return I was able to have at peak moments of 10ms / frame at obsolete i7 CPU while most of the time the game ran at 4-6 ms/frame CPU bound. But the variable frequency is a neat idea (if it works properly) because it’s very versatile.
On the Tempest 3D audio, Kavan added:
It will be a game-changer but it will also depend on the consumer’s side of audio. For me it’s personally the reason I want to work with PS5.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X are both due out in holiday 2020.
