PS5 YouTube App Updated With HDR Support

Those of you who are frequent users of the PS5 YouTube app will be pleased to learn that HDR support has finally been added to the service.

The update was spotted by a reader on FlatpanelsHD, with High Dynamic Range — specifically HDR10 video in the VP9-2 codec — now supported for Sony’s latest home console. This means you can now enjoy HDR on YouTube videos up to 4K/60 FPS.

PS5 HDR YouTube support arrived later than the Xbox Series X/S, which received the feature in early 2021. Likewise, BBC iPlayer, which has been available for multiple formats for ages, only just released for the PS5 today. Still, better late than never, eh?

The PS5 launched in November 2020 in the US, UK, Europe, and other major territories, and has shipped 13.4 million units worldwide. Sadly, the console is still suffering from major shortages and is not readily available at retailers.
