In an effort for its PlayStation Portable to compete with the dominant Nintendo DS, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is working on attracting a younger audience. NewMediaAge reports that SCEE has created pspinyourhands.com, a community-focused campaign site encouraging children and families to share their interests in an online 3D gallery.
Sony’s new campaign is a part of its “Your Whole World In Your Hands” brand message, which launched last year. Claire Backhouse, U.K. product manager for the PSP, told NewMediaAge that this is the first time Sony has gone after a younger market. While the base of PSP users, 16 to 24-year-old men, will not be neglected, this new campaign is set to coincide with summer game releases like the new Harry Potter game and Petz, as well as the launch of new PSP colors.
“The hook of the campaign will be to encourage kids to come to the site, build their own world and create a community,” she stated.
We can expect to hear more about this campaign in the coming months.
