Lionsgate has announced that the Ratchet & Clank movie will not be released on Blu-ray in the U.K., and will instead only be available as a digital download and DVD purchase.
The movie will be available from August 22 digitally and will see a physical release on DVD on August 29. This is in strike contrast to the U.S., where the film will be available as part of a Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD pack on August 23.
Furthermore, the DVD version will set you back £15.99, which is what you’d normally expect to pay for the high-end Blu-ray format.
It’s an odd choice, especially given that Ratchet & Clank videogame series has been available for Blu-ray equipped consoles dating back to the PS3 in 2008 with Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction.
The Ratchet & Clank movie was released in cinemas in April 2016 and took a bit of a thrashing from critics, and currently stands at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. Unsurprisingly, the film underperformed at the box office, taking $12.5 million worldwide against a budget of approximately $20 million.
It’s not all bad news for PlayStation’s dynamic duo, however. The recent PlayStation 4-exclusive Ratchet & Clank reboot proved a massive hit with critics, and became the fastest-selling game in the series’ history and topped the U.K. retail charts in the process.
