Rebel Wolves Says The Blood Of Dawnwalker ‘Isn’t That Big’ But The Studio Was Able To ‘Go Crazy With Actual Content’

Patryk Fijalkowski, Senior Quest Designer for Rebel Wolves‘ upcoming The Blood of Dawnwalker, has revealed during a chat with GameRadar that the RPG ‘isn’t that big,’ with the studio instead offering a more compact 40-hour quest that still doesn’t skimp on content.

Speaking on the overall game length, Fijalkowski said that The Blood of Dawnwalker is “dense, but we didn’t want to make an open world for like, 400 hours.” As such, players can expect the average play through to last, “give or take,” about 40 hours. “Compared to other big open worlds, it’s not much, but thanks to that, we could go crazy with actual content. Quality over quantity, and that help us keep in scope.”

From an early point of production, we had a clear vision – and we had to, because to create the time progression system, for example, we had to have the entire game at an early stage. A skeleton of it, like the number of quests, how they interact with each other, what we can do with them.

Thanks to that, we knew that the scope was, you know, scaled back from a super huge open world. And having this skeleton at an early stage gave us the space to experiment, and put those layers on and iterate, iterate, iterate.

This isn’t the only time that Rebel Wolves has slapped a 40-hour length on The Blood of Dawnwalker’s campaign. Back in February, the game’s creative director stated that the vampiric-RPG will last about 30-40 hours, and the team is aiming for ‘the quality level of The Witcher 3.’

The Blood of Dawnwalker is currently in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
