The ever-reliable AestheticGamer has teased a few new details on the new Resident Evil game that’s coming out next year. Apparently, the game is going to be a cross-generation release, so it’ll be coming to PS5 and PS4, and is set to be the ‘biggest departure the series has ever taken.’
Resident Evil 2021 Details Teased
Posting on Twitter, AestheticGamer revealed that the as-yet unannounced project has been in the works since 2016, and internal testing shows it to be a high-quality title. Nonetheless, he reckons fans are going to be pretty ‘pissed off’ when it’s finally revealed.
Ah what the Hell, I’ll tease a bit more about this 2021 RE game & then not talk deeper about it until a bit after RE3 is out.The 2021 RE game started development in late 2016, by the time it releases it’ll have been in development for 4-4.5 years (been in dev at the moment for about for about 3-3.5 years).
It’s development is very similar to the original Resident Evil 3, not the remake, but I won’t expand on what I mean by that until later. The announcement for it will be really soon, and it’s by far the biggest departure the series has ever taken, to the point I expect a lot of people will be pissed off about it when it gets revealed, but they should be open minded. Internal testing and the like show it’s high quality game, and I’m quite excited for it.
Sounds interesting, right? As to what the game might be, there’s a few candidates. Resident Evil Revelations 3 and a new Resident Evil Umbrella Corp-style shooter spring to mind, although it’s doubtful at this point that it’s Resident Evil 8.
AestheticGamer has already said that the next numbered entry in the long-running horror series is still some way off, so we can probably rule that out. It’s also not a remake of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica.
I’m pretty curious about his comments regarding the game’s development being similar to Resident Evil 3. For those unaware, that game originally started out as a spin-off title before being promoted to a full-fledged sequel, so perhaps something similar has happened with this new title.
