A few weeks removed from its formal announcement at the PS5 reveal event, Resident Evil 8 is still the title on many folks’ lips, and luckily we’ve got some fresh new details to pour over, coming courtesy of an interview conducted by Japanese magazine Famitsu.
Translated by noted Resident Evil aficionado Alex Aniel, (thanks, Alex!) the interview itself features two of the game’s producers, Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano answering variety of questions.
Perhaps most notably, it’s been confirmed that the game as been in development for the last three-and-a-half years, and that the reason the word ‘Village’ appears so prominently in the game’s title as opposed to ‘8′ is that Capcom wants the player to think of the village as its own protagonist in the grand scheme of things.
While both Kanda-san and Fabiano are tight-lipped on many aspects, they also confirm that the game is set in Europe, will serve as the conclusion to the story first started in Resident Evil 7, and that ‘many have guessed why’ series regular Chris Redfield seems to have turned to the dark side.

As an ode to veteran players, fear, combat, exploration, item management is a ‘must’ for the game, alongside the series’ patented puzzle-solving. As reported previously, Capcom is utilizing the power of both PS5 and Xbox Series X to upgrade the graphics and sound, as well as limited loading times to create a ‘more immersive’ experience.
