Speaking during an interview with TheGamer, Capcom’s Koshi Nakanishi and Masato Kunazawa have revealed that the mysterious hooded character in Resident Evil Requiem is not a returning character, shutting down rampant fan speculation in the process.
There’s been plenty of chatter about the identity of the character on Reddit and there outlets over the past few months, with fan theories pointing to everyone from Leon S. Kennedy, Albert Wesker, to Nikolai Zinoviev. However, we now know that the hooded chap is a brand new character, not a familiar face.

Everyone is convinced [the hooded figure] has to be a reveal of a returning cast member, and there is speculation that it ‘must be this person’ or ‘must be that person’. But we don’t always want to just lean on surprise comebacks like thes. The hooded person is a new character. We will confirm that much. In this case, it’s a newly created character for this storyline, so it’s a bit of a previously undisclosed detail, but hopefully it contextualizes how we’re approaching the game’s story.
Speaking in a separate interview recently, Nakanishi-san, who servers as director on Resident Evil Requiem, admitted that the team has gotten so used the process of making new ways to scare players that they aren’t even sure what’s scary until someone actually tries it for themselves.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set 30 years after Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and the destruction of Raccoon City, and follows Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa from Resident Evil Outbreak, as she investigates a series of murders in the same location where her mother was murdered years before. Players will also be able to revisit Raccoon City during the game, which lies in ruins after being bombed by the government in 1998.
