The Future Games Show YouTube channel interviewed Resident Evil: Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa, who were asked to compare the game’s action and Horror Elements to those of past Resident Evil titles. Nakanishi confirms the game leans towards the horror aspect of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 Remake.

If I had to compare to past titles, I would say it’s more in line with Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 Remake. You can call it the so-called old school Resident Evil with exploration and backtracking.

The comment was made around the 4:28 mark, but the entire interview delves into the making of Resident Evil: Requiem, covering various topics such as the return to Racoon City, the use of both 3rd and 1st Person camera angles, and the balance between action and horror.

Resident Evil Requiem is slated for release in February 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game takes place 30 years after the destruction of Raccoon City, and follows FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft as she investigates a series of deaths at the same hotel where her mother passed away.
