Resident Evil Veronica Team Plans To ‘Restructure The Story’ And ‘Putting The Players’ Memories First’

The producer on Resident Evil: Veronica has revealed that the development team is planing to restructure the narrative in order to align it with previous entries in the franchise, noting fans who haven’t played earlier Resident Evil games would do well to give them a try before its release.

Speaking during an interview with Famitsu magazine, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi

With Resident Evil Veronica, we are planning to restructure the story so that players can clearly feel how all of these titles are part of one cohesive series. What’s most important for the development team at Capcom is putting the players’ memories first, and then rebuilding the game on top of that.

While Hirabayashi-san said it’s not necessary play the original Resident Evil — CODE: Veronica ahead of the remake to enjoy it, he did say “you will enjoy it even more if you are familiar with the stories of other games in the Resident Evil series. So I highly recommend playing any past titles that you haven’t played yet.

Hirabayashi previously stated during an interview with WCCFTech that RE: Veronica is being headed by Yasuhiro Anpo and Kazunori Kadoi, who are the same duo that helmed the critically acclaimed remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. Furthermore, despite the reveal trailer depicting a first-person viewpoint, Veronica is going to be a third-person game.

Resident Evil: Veronica is scheduled for release on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S in 2027. Set a few months after the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Veronica follows Claire Redfield as she is captured in Paris while looking for her brother Chris, and is imprisoned on an Umbrella-owned facility on Rockfort Island. The compound soon suffers an outbreak however, resulting in zombies and other bio-weapons quickly overwhelming the island.
