The rival exclusives, shimmering mascots to their respective platform, SCEA / Insomniac’s Resistance 2 for PlayStation 3 and Microsoft / Epic Games’ Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360. With nothing yet confirmed, we can only speculate that according to recent rumors, Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 will be releasing within a week or so of each other. This will pit these two monster exclusives head-to-head.
There have been a couple of updates to Gears of War 2’s release date, first coming from Lester Speight, the voice behind Cole Train. Apparently when questioned about the release of the new title, Speight simply responded that the question should be posed to him again on November 16. The other rumor comes from Gamercenteronline, where they state Gears of War 2 will be releasing November 17 in Europe. Either way, it’s sounding as if Gears of War will be seeing a mid-November release.
As for Resistance 2, the only thing official is that Sony plans to release the title this Fall. Rumors have speculated that the sequel will hit sometime early November, with both Gamespot and Gametap listing the title for a November 4 release. According to IGN, the title has been listed as a November release, and 1up.com suggests that Resistance 2 will hit November 15, one day before the supposed release of Gears of War 2.
The last time these two were pitted against one another was in the year 2006, once again released in November. Resistance: Fall of Man was released as a PlayStation 3 launch title November 14 and has since sold nearly 3 million copies. Where as Gears of War released November 7, selling a total of 5.2 million copies.
Now of course the Xbox 360 had a larger install base of about 4 million consoles when these titles were first shipped, so we’ll see if things change this time around. Stay tuned to PSU.com for more details on the upcoming release of Resistance 2.
