Insomniac Games’ Marcus Smith has praised the company’s decision to bump up the development cycle of its games to three years, saying Resistance 3’s 2011 release is “music to our ears.”
The Ratchet & Clank developer previously worked on a two-year development cycle for major IP’s before revealing at GamesCom in August that it had opted to switch to a three-year plan instead.
And Smith, the creative director on Resistance 3, couldn’t be happier about the decision, telling the chaps at GamesTM: “Many of us now have children, and the reality of game development is that we need to maintain the quality, so something else had to change.”
“Extending the development cycle was the way to go. It was something we were discussing from the very beginning.”
Had Insomniac decided to stick to its original two-year plan, Resistance 3 would have been in shops in 2010. As it stands, the game will now be out some time next year. Stay tuned for more on the shooter here at PSU as it breaks.
