Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, has named-dropped Red Dead Redemption 2 as the ‘best thing’ he worked on at the studio.
Speaking with IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey during the L.A. Comic-Con over the weekend, Houser highlighted the Wild West adventure as the pinnacle of open-world storytelling, which is no easy feat considering the fact Rockstar has had plenty of practice in this respect with the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Even so, Houser feels Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best of the bunch.
Red Dead 2, I think, was the best thing that I worked on, the best single kind of realization of sort of open-world storytelling thematic consistency, and understanding how the games are assembled to take you on an emotional journey.

Speaking in the same interview, Houser touched base on the lack of Bully 2, explaining it was largely down to ‘bandwidth issues.’
Red Dead Redemption was released for PS4 and Xbox One back in November 2018, and back in May of this year it was revealed that the game had sold 74 million units worldwide. Rumours continue to gather pace that a native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version is in the works, although Rockstar Games hasn’t announced anything yet.
