Rumor – Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Due To Poor Current-Gen Performance

CD Projekt RED opted to delay the Cyberpunk 2077 release date to September reportedly due to the game’s poor performance on current-generation hardware.

Cyberpunk 2077 Delay Rumor

That’s according to a Polish insider (via Reddit), who claims that the Xbox One version (that is, the base console) of the sci-fi title is apparently the worst offender, having been described as “extremely unsatisfactory.”

Cyberpunk 2077 was originally pencilled in for release on April 16 (Keanu Reeves announced the date at E3 2019, remember? ‘You’re breathing!’) but has now been pushed back to September. The game is still on target for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One, but CD Projekt RED hasn’t ruled out bringing the game to next-generation consoles.

It’s not out of the question that Cyberpunk 2077 will at some point come to PS5 and Xbox Series X, and if the game isn’t up to scratch on current-gen systems, then it’s more likely they’ll bring it to next-gen.

In addition to pushing the game’s release date back, CD Projekt RED also confirmed that the game’s multiplayer component will not arrive until after 2021.

Here’s the blurb on Cyberpunk 2077 if you’re scratching your head:

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you.

Sony has confirmed a holiday 2020 release window for the PS5, and it has been reported that the system will be fully unveiled during a dedicated event in New York City on February 5.
