Sony is “confident” that the firm will have its next-generation console out the door before competitor Microsoft, claims a new report.
VG247 has heard from various sources that the successor to the PlayStation 3 will be out before Christmas 2013 – the rumored launch window for Xbox 720.
Furthermore, tech specs for the new hardware were apparently put in place two years ago.
"Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time," said a source.
“Top line” publishers are already in the loop on Sony’s plans, says another source, adding “they’re already working on [PS4]”
The site goes on to claim that “most” other companies will be brief by the end of 2012, and some will allegedly be invited to special Sony events in North America in May and June.
Lastly, it has also been reported that PlayStation 4 will connect with PlayStation Vita in a similar manner to the Wii U and its tablet controller.
Sony has continually denied any plans for a new console, with PlayStation boss Kazuo Hirai having shot down Internet chatter that the hardware giant is looking to announce PS4 at E3 later this year.
