Rumour – Final Fantasy IX Remake Could Be A PlayStation-Exclusive

According to verified ResetEra leaker Im A Hero Too, the rumoured Final Fantasy IX remake is likely a PlayStation-exclusive release.

The leaker claimed they have seen the remake and it has “Sony written all over it,” and that the game won’t be released for at least two years and won’t be coming to Nintendo Switch. This may suggest that it’s going to be much more than a simple visual overhaul and more of a complete from-the-ground-up remake, since the likes of Final Fantasy VII Remake haven’t come to Ninty’s console.

Square Enix hasn’t officially announced the Final Fantasy IX Remake yet, although it was one of many games outed in the GeForce Now leak back in 2020.

Final Fantasy IX was originally released for the PSOne back in 2000 and was developed in parallel with Final Fantasy VIII. The game is noted for dropping the more futuristic tone of its predecessors in favour of a more medieval aesthetic that recalls the earlier Final Fantasy games.
