A heap of new details on the as-yet unannounced The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake have surfaced in a new report on MP1st, which originates from an employee at Virtuous and details many of the changes that will be coming to the game.
First of all, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake is being powered by Unreal Engine 5, and is billed as being “fully remade,” so it sounds like it’ll be more than a simple touch-up in terms of visuals. In fact, it is reported that the key gameplay systems in Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and HUD are all being significantly improved compared to the original 2006 fantasy-RPG.

Going into more detail, it is stated that the Blocking disciple has taken inspiration from Souls-like and “ACT” (this could be a reference to the Assassin’s Creed Ezio Trilogy), as the original was deemed “boring” and “frustrating.” Damage calculations have reportedly been reworked, and the Sneak icons are now highlighted in the improved Snake ability.
Elsewhere, the report claims that the HUD has been tweaked to make it easier to understand and more appealing to young players from a visual point of view. In addition, hit reactions have been incorporated in order to improve the response when NPCs take damage. The Archery system has been overhauled so that it is more in line with modern standards for both third and first-person viewpoints.
Back in December, leaker Extas1s claimed that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake will be announced this month, and a technical art director at Virtuous further hinted at the project’s existence in a post on their LinkedIn profile recently. The Oblivion remake, or remaster was it was known originally, was first mentioned in court documents regarding Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision back in 2022.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released for the Xbox 360 and PC in 2006, and was ported to the PS4 the following year. The game takes place in Cyrodill, and sees the player character (their look and gender is determined entirely by you in the character customisation feature) attempting to put a stop to a cult known as the Mythic Dawn from opening the gates to a hellish realm known as Oblivion, ruled over by the Daedric Prince of Destruction, Mehrunes Dagon.
