SEGA has reaffirmed that reboots of its classic franchises such as Crazy Taxi, Golden Axes, Jet Set Radio, and Streets of Rage are still in production despite the recent cancellation of its ambitious ‘Super Game’ project.
The publisher announced during its latest financial report that it was pivoting away from free-to-play titles and had moved over 100 staff over to working on core IP, with the Super Game project cancelled as a result. However, it was quick to note that its reboots of Crazy Taxi and other classic franchise revivals are not impacted by the decision to scrap the Super Game project, and remain in the works.
For those who need a quick reminder, SEGA initially announced its revivals of various classic IP during The Game Awards 2023, one of which has already seen the light of day in the form of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.
Back in March 2024, it was reported by an industry leaker that SEGA’s planned revivals of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio will include full remakes powered by Unreal Engine 5. Previously, the same tipster stated that the new Crazy Taxi game would be a live service affair featuring a survival mode that would host up to 100 players.
Prior to to these rumours, SEGA had briefly touched on its Crazy Taxi revival where it described the project as a ‘triple-A‘ game, although wouldn’t reveal any further details.
