Sega may have fallen as a console giant, but their software department hasn’t been doing too shabby on the video game front. Just recently, the publisher released our November Game of the Month with Valkyria Chronicles. Looking to the New Year, Sega is confident that the economic climate will not put a damper on sales throughout 2009.
The company, which is synonymous with a certain speedy blue hedgehog, is turning its high to a long list of new and unique IPs which include House of the Dead: Overkill, Football Manager Live, The Conduit, Mad World, Sonic and the Black Knight, Bayonetta and Empire Total War.
With such a strong turnout in 2008, Sega Europe MD Alan Pritchard is confident of a repeat performance for 2009.
“Our ambitions are to continue to be a profitable publisher, and we’d like to maintain our current market share and publisher ranking,” said Pritchard. “And with the breadth of titles we have on multiple formats, I think we’re well placed to do that.
“Sega could very easily be a publisher that brings out Football Manager, Virtua Tennis, Total War AND Sonic to the market. But to have an all year round line-up, then we need to look outside of our portfolio. New IP is a challenge, which we can see at the moment with many titles probably not achieving their expected levels of sell through.”
Continuing on with console sales information within North America, Pritchard feels that Sega has the opportunity to reach a broad base of gamers that have yet to experience Sega titles for what they are.
