The development team behind the new Crazy Taxi game have revealed in a new interview published by SEGA that the revival of the classic arcade franchise will take the form of an open-world multiplayer game.
Speaking during the video, the team admitted that it experienced difficulties in switching from the single-player experience that previous Crazy Taxi games were based on to a live-service model, but said that strong progress is being made.
SEGA Sapporo Studio revealed that the city in the new Crazy Taxi game is being produced with realism and a sense of freedom in mind, and that players can engage in a variety of activities throughout its ‘theme park-like environment.’

SEGA had previously confirmed that its Crazy Taxi reboot would be a ‘triple-A’ effort, while a later reported stating the game would feature a live service model with a 100-person survival mode. This is separate from the rumoured Crazy Taxi remake, which is said to be powered by Unreal Engine 5 and is a complete overhaul of the original Dreamcast title.
The Crazy Taxi reboot is one of many titles in development at SEGA as it looks to revive classic IPs, the others being Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio and Streets of Rage.
