The next chapter in Square Enix’s rebooted Tomb Raider franchise, rumored to be titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider, will not be revealed at E3 2017, according to a new report.
While it had been expected that Lara Croft’s next treasure-hunting adventure, a sequel to the brilliant Rise of the Tomb Raider, would get a formal reveal sooner rather than later, it now appears that Square Enix is holding off until later in the year to unveil the new project. A release date is still unknown.
"This will be a quiet E3 for Lara, but we’re looking forward to catching up on her new adventure later this year,” commented Meagan Marine, Tomb Raider’s Senior Community Manager, on the series’ official Facebook page.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider was leaked last November in a rather unorthodox manner, when a Reddit user just so happened to be travelling in a subway in Montreal alongside a member of the development team, who had a presentation on the game on full show on his laptop. As such, this has lead many to believe the new game is being worked on by Eidos Montreal and not Crystal Dynamics.
The Tomb Raider series was rebooted by Crystal Dynamics with the eponymous 2013 action-adventure title, which explored Croft’s origins as she was shipwrecked on a mysterious island. The title was later ported to PS4 and Xbox One in the shape of Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, with the sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration hitting PS4 in November 2016.
Both games were massively successful from a critical and commercial standpoint, with the Tomb Raider selling over 8.5 million copies worldwide as of April 2015, making it the best-selling entry in the 20-year-old franchise to date.
