Shadow of the Tomb Raider release date rumor

According to the latest issue of OPM UK, the as-yet unannounced Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be released in early 2018.

The publication’s rumor section contains the following statement, which should be taken as speculation at this point until we hear something from Square Enix on the matter: “Rumor squirrels tell us Shadow of the Tomb Raider could be released early in 2018.”

That’s about all we have to go on right now, although this latest rumor comes hot on the heels of claims that Lara Croft’s next trinket-pinching adventure won’t be showcased at E3 next month, but rather, later in the year. Unless the game has been in development for some time now, it seems unlikely Shadow of the Tomb Raider will launch early next year, although that could very well be the case.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider was initially leaked last November, when a passenger and fellow Reddit poster just so happened to be travelling on a Montreal subway alongside a member of Eidos Montreal, who had a presentation on the upcoming sequel on full display on his laptop. Other than that, nothing on the new Tomb Raider game has been revealed at the time of writing.

Tomb Raider was rebooted in 2013 with the critically acclaimed eponymous origins story from Crystal Dynamics, who also went on to deliver 2016’s Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration. Both games sold millions worldwide and successfully brought the franchise into the modern console generation with revamped gameplay mechanics and fresh storytelling, focusing on a younger Croft as she experienced her first tomb raiding adventures.
