Recently announced on Twitter, Shadow of the Tomb Raider The Pillar DLC releases on the 18th December.
Coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, The Pillar is available as part of the £24.99/$29.99 Shadow of the Tomb Raider Season Pass, or as a standalone purchase. The latter of which should set you back somewhere in the region of four bucks, judging by the game’s previous DLC expansion, The Forge.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider The Pillar is a Journey of Discovery
The original announcement Tweet didn’t offer much in the way of precise details as to the nature of the upcoming DLC; aside from a sentence or two explaining that The Pillar will reveal the truth behind the legend of the Maya apocalypse Lara’s spent so much time and effort trying to prevent.
However, a follow up Tweet from developer Eidos Montreal, provided us with a closer look at the latest chapter in Lara’s globetrotting adventure courtesy of a short “making of” video.

Hosted by associate producer Jonathan Dahan, the video begins with a brief discussion of the outfits Lara will be able to acquire over the course of the DLC and how The Forge and The Pillar connect to the main narrative, before highlighting the technical challenges inherent in making an expansion of this kind.
“We are adding stuff to the main game, and we’re pushing the consoles to, you know, pretty much their limits. So, adding anything in terms of memory or the game’s performance; it’s really a challenge and we have to pull some magic tricks to do it.” Said producer Fleur Marty.
Finally, and much to the delight of series’ fans, The Pillar introduces a bunch of new tombs.
“We’re always listening to the fans and the community” explained senior producer Mario Chabtini. “What we’ve learned is that they want more tombs. So, we decided to bring more and add a new twist.”
What this twist will be, however, Chabtini didn’t say. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
