The Kickstarter project for Shenmue III has officially come to a close, with the highly anticipated action-adventure sequel raising $6,333,295 (roughly £4.1 million) from a total of 69,320 backers.
Not only has the title become the highest funded video game project on Kickstarter, but the fact it has hit $6 million+ means the game will now also benefit from an enhanced battle system.
Shenmue III reached its initial goal of $2 million in less than 24 hours following its unveiling at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference. It also became the fastest video game on the crowdfunding service to hit the $1 milllion mark.
Earlier this week the game’s official website opened and was accompanied by a new teaser trailer, titled ‘Lake of the Lantern Bugs.’
Shenmue III is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and PC in December 2017.
