Silent Hill Townfall Rated By ESRB Suggesting New Details Are Not Far Off

The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has slapped Silent Hill Townfall with a ‘Mature’ rating (probably not a surprise!) today, suggesting a release date announcement is just around the corner – possibly at Sony’s State of Play event today.

While the rating description doesn’t really give too much in the way of new info on the game, it does reconfirm that firearms are featured in Silent Hill Townfall and mentions various weapons including pistols and shotguns. You can read it below.

SILENT HILL: Townfall is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Strong Language, and Violence. This is a survival-horror game in which players attempt to escape from a fictional island town in Scotland. From a first-person perspective, players explore locations, solve puzzles, and use various weapons (e.g., pistols, shotguns, axes) to defend against hostile creatures. Mutated creatures sometimes appear out of nowhere, lunging at players’ character (i.e, jumpscares). Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire and large blood-splatter effects, which can stain the surrounding area. Cutscenes include additional instances of violence and blood: a close-up depiction of a character stabbing a body; a man being eaten by a monster. The word “f**k” is heard in the game.

Silent Hill Townfall is in development for PS5 and PC. As the description above mentions, this latest instalment in the psychological horror franchise takes place in Scotland, specifically the island of St. Amelia. The game follows Simon Ordell and is set during the 1990s, as he is called back to the town to ‘put things right.’ Things get foggy really quickly, and in typical Silent Hill fashion there’s plenty of monsters lurking in the abandoned streets.
