Slitterhead was just announced during The Game Awards 2021, to many fans delight with Keiichiro Toyama, the original Silent Hill director back at the helm. Unfortunately though, a recent interview reveals that the game is very, very early in production.
In fact, it hasn’t even entered full production yet.
The news comes from an interview with Toyama on VGC, where the director says,
“We have completed our prototyping phase. We will be using our knowledge gained from the feedback to enter full production. Though it’s too early to reveal any details about the game, and it will take some time prior to release, we hope you look forward to it!”
When the announcement came during last weeks show, Keighley said it was “in early production”. We just didn’t know how early, it seems.
For PS4 owners though, this is once again another sign that they likely will need to have upgraded to a PS5 before release. If the game is so far out, it’s likely PS4 releases will have ceased.
It’s usual fare now for games to be announced even when they’re years away from launch, but it’s not always been a boon. We’ve had many examples of games getting announced too early, compromising their marketing and worsening the sting of any potential delays.
Hopefully that’s not the case for Slitterhead.
