Some PS5 Digital Edition Customers Have Received The Standard Edition Instead

The PS5 is now out in the US, and some early adopters opened their boxes only to be surprised they got the wrong console. No, it wasn’t an Xbox Series X, but rather, some who ordered the PS5 Digital Edition received the regular disc-based model by mistake.

Some PS5 Digital Edition Costumers Receive The Wrong Console Model

You can see some examples below. Note that folk were not actually annoyed by the mistake, as the disc-based model means they’re able to play 4K Blu-ray movies, and they only paid $399 for the privilege! Still, it’s an interesting cock-up nonetheless.

The PS5 Digital-Only Edition obviously allows only for game downloads and is not able to play any disc-based media. The Standard Edition retails for $499/£449 and pretty much does what it says on the tin in terms of playback.

It’ll be interesting to see which version proved the most popular during the launch period, especially after the console rolls out in the UK and Europe next Thursday.
