Sonic X Shadow Generations Producer Eyes Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 Remake

Shun Nakaumura, the producer for Sonic X Shadow Generations, has revealed during a recent Indonesia Sonic fan event that he would like to tackle a remake of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, which is widely regarded as one the Blue Blur’s worst outings to date.

When asked if Sonic Team would consider remaking or remastering past Sonic the Hedgehog game — with examples including Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 — Nakamura-san said that he would personally want to remake Sonic 2006.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 was released for PS3 and Xbox 360 as the first then-new generation entry in the franchise, and prior to release there was a lot of buzz generated for the game as it (on the surface) looked pretty good; trailers captured Sonic’s speed and for the time the visuals were pretty impressive. However, upon release, it was revealed that Sonic ’06 was plagued by bugs, long load times, poor storyline (in which Sonic is kissed by a human; remember that travesty?), and bad controls.

With this in mind, if there was ever a Sonic game in need of a remake, then you could easily argue that it would be this game.
