Sony Bluepoint Games Acquisition Rumors Backed Up By Reliable Tipster

Sony’s reported acquisition of Bluepoint Games has all but been confirmed thanks to a slip-up on the PlayStation Japan Twitter account, but industry tipster Shpeshal_Nick has also chimed in revealing that he’s also heard the console maker has purchased the studio.

Posting on Twitter, Nick explained that there was at least one major surprise in store for Sony’s as-yet unannounced post-E3 2021 showcase that hasn’t yet leaked. However, it turns out that said surprise was actually none other than the Bluepoint Games acquisition. Doh!

Last week, Sony announced that it had snapped up Returnal developer Housemarque and brought it under its umbrella of internal PlayStation studios. However, a cock-up on its Japanese arm let the cat out of the bag in regards to it also purchasing Bluepoint. It was hastily removed, but the damage had already been done.

Bluepoint Games is best known for their outstanding work on Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, both full remakes of classic PlayStation games. They’re now rumored to be working on a complete revamp of Metal Gear Solid.

Interestingly, it’s worth pointing out that following the Twitter goof, Bluepoint Games trumpeted the fact it’s ‘fully independent’ and ‘self funded.’ We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
